While the rugged, lush green shores are beautiful to look at, they are labor-intensive and dangerous to mow.
A good idea would be to hire some goats to eat the grass that grows in inaccessible areas, but the goats graze so they won’t do a good job. The best way to have a smooth, even lawn is to mow it, but not all lawn mowers can do the job.
Some may be too heavy and bulky to handle the steep slope; others may be too powerful or too weak to operate in steep areas.
Wavy patios look great aesthetically but are difficult to cut. In fact, any incline greater than 15 degrees is considered a challenge, as most lawn mowers are designed to cut to that level. A ride-on model is considered the best hill mower as they adapt well to slopes and can save time if you have a larger yard; however, you shouldn’t rule out walk-behind lawnmowers, which can be easier to maneuver, quieter, and much less expensive.
Most people don’t understand the ideal way to mow a steep hill. Therefore, they do not buy the best lawnmower. When mowing in a mountainous landscape, there are several things to consider, such as a sturdy, reliable, and lightweight lawnmower. Other key features include self-propel and height-of-cut adjustments that make mowing on steep slopes much easier.
And for this reason, you should invest in the best lawn mower for hills and steep slopes. With the wide range of mowing options on the market, there are several factors you will need to consider when choosing a low mower for your sloping lawn.
Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place; we’ve tested dozens of products to compile a list of the best quality lawn mowers for steep slopes and mountainous areas. Compare each mower to your needs and take the ugliness out of your sloping, hilly lawn with an aesthetic look.

Honda HRX217K5VKA 4 in 1
A grass with hills or steep slopes is much more difficult to cut. You have to watch your mowing speed, your balance, and your cutting quality. Walk-behind lawn mowers are most useful in such conditions.
The Honda HRX217K5VKA is the best mower for hills and steep slopes. We tested it in tough conditions and it stood out from the crowd in our review.
The epitome of engine design and manufacturing, no one does it better than Honda. The HRX217K5VKA is no different; it is compatible with a powerful 197cc engine that can run efficiently on your lawn.
With two photos, easily set it to your favorite function through thick grass like a hot knife through butter, saving time and energy. Then you have four cutting surfaces that result in ultra-fine cuts. The 187cc engine and rear-wheel drive make this mower a very good climber. And the crazy thing: this mower consumes very little fuel! The bag is so large that it will cut a lot without needing to empty the cuts.
Its award-winning “Honda SELECT DRIVE” feature is useful for mowing on hills, slopes, and steep embankments. You can effortlessly adapt the speed of the mower as you go.
With a 21-inch deck, it features a double blade instead of a single blade, providing double action for a finer cut of grass. It even has an additional feature called sheet shredding, which is pretty self-explanatory.
On top of that, Honda has equipped the HRX217K5VKA with innovative Roto-Stop features. Speed control functions allow the mower to mimic your speed, while Roto-Stop gives the user the ability to cut power from the motor to the blades. So if you come across a log or branch, pressing a button will cut power to the blades so you don’t have to turn off the mower motor.
The hydrostatic speed control will ensure that the mower always has enough power so that it can cut easily even on steep surfaces. The Honda HRX217K5VKA is overkill for a small to medium-sized lawn. The innovative features and excellent performance are worth it, even if the price is high.

Cub Cadet Ultima ZTX4
The Cub Cadet Ultima ZTX4 is a heavy-duty battery-operated lawnmower. We were impressed with its outstanding features and the design of its products. It features a robust AeroForce max platform and a rigid steel frame.
Our family had a lot of fun trying out the Ultima lawnmower. It is remarkably comfortable and cuts grass without any problems. And since this is a zero turn mower, its turning radius is zero.
The ZTX4 mower is very easy to maintain. All you have to do is mount the mower when you arrive you have met the door. But that shouldn’t be a problem; it’s pretty easy to assemble. Just follow the instruction manual.
This means that you can mow around obstacles in the garden, such as trees. It is also quite safe. You won’t have to worry about the mower tipping over on steep slopes or uneven surfaces. The ZTX4 maintains a manufactured steel smell. The deck floor is removable. So you can quickly access the inside of the bridge.
The Ultima ZTX4 also maintains a tubular steel frame. Most importantly, the frame and deck are covered with electrically applied paint. This electronic coating protects the steel from corrosion. The lawnmower comes with a very comfortable seat. The seat height can be adjusted. It even has armrests.
The Ultima ZTX4 is designed for packaging. A bagger is included with the other accessories supplied with the mower. It is designed in such a way that you can efficiently cut the grass and place the clippings inside the bagger. Also, when we tested this mower, we didn’t find any clumping.
The overall performance of a lawnmower depends primarily on its ability to overcome obstacles. The Ultima ZTX4 is designed for smooth-moving workplaces. This mower can handle all types of bars, regardless of their strength.
If you want to give it a nice shape that has been successful, you should keep the option to adjust the height of the patio. This will determine how tall the grass will be after it is cut. The ZTX4 offers 17 different options for height adjustment ranging from 1 inch to 4.75 inches.
You will need a lawnmower with a long run time if you plan to mow large lawns. In fact, the Cub Cadet Ultima maintains a fuel capacity of 5.5 gallons. This means that the motor can run for a long time without the need for refilling.

54-inch Husqvarna Z254. 26 hp
Known for their skill in making tools. They did not fail to disappoint on this front. They have one of the best lawn mowers for steep slopes. Maintain a 26 horsepower Kohler engine that allows you to start easily and accelerate fairly quickly compared to other lawnmowers. It has a top speed of 6.5 MPH.
Maintain a patent-pending parking brake system that engages or disengages automatically when the steering levers are moved outward or inward. Which is ideal to avoid any abnormal accidents. It also features air induction mowing technology that draws air from the top and bottom of the deck, improving mowing. It also features a high-strength steel-reinforced stamped steel deck for maximum durability.
To provide you with traction and reduce the risk of tipping over, the robot is equipped with all-wheel-drive technology. You may feel that this feature is going to destroy your lawn, but it is not.
To prevent this from happening, the mower has two connected bodies that interact independently. To keep the robot light, the bodies are held together by a magnesium bridge that sits atop the device. You control the mower using an app. You can program cutting times from within the app, adjust blade height, and more.

EGO Power + LM2142SP Electric Lawn Mower
When it comes to electric lawn mowers for steep hills, slopes and embankments, the EGO Power + LM2142SP are a lawnmower second to none. These are by far the most versatile electric mowers that have all the features you need for all your mowing needs. The LM2142 is a battery-powered, self-propelled mower that has the power of a gasoline-powered mower but without noise or pollution.
The EGO Power + has a well-thought-out design that comes with two batteries that are removable. The mower can run on one or two batteries if you need more run time. While you run the mower on one of the batteries, the other can be charged so you never have to worry about running out of power.
Nothing is more important than the reliability in design, speed, safety, and ease of use of a sleek and elegant lawnmower for gardens. Well, most lawn mowers can work well for small gardens, but larger lawns take longer to run.
It worked quite well in the review and we were able to cut just under 80 minutes of run time, which the manufacturer claims.
The width of the cut can dramatically affect the time it takes to mow. The wider the width, the less you have to move up and down the field to cut the grass faster.
With a bighearted 21-inch cutting width, the EGO LM2102SP is highly not compulsory for large job sites (ideally up to 3/4 of an acre). The wide mower deck allows you to mow faster than most lawn mowers on the market. Since you don’t have to walk as many passes to mow your lawn, it can save you a lot of time.
There is a dedicated throttle control on the left side of the handlebar, so you have the freedom to adjust the gears to suit your needs. The six-step height adjustment can adjust the cutting height from 1.5 “to 4.25”.
This steep hill, slope, and the embankment lawn mower are very easy to use because even the handlebar has three preset positions that allow you to adjust the handle based on your height. The EGO Power + also has a headlight that lets you work through the night and the 10 “rear wheels give you the traction you need to climb hills, slopes, and steep embankments. All of these features, along with the luxury of an electric drivetrain, make it one of the best lawn mowers for steep hills, slopes, and embankments.

TimeCutter MX5000 Zero Turn Mower
The TimeCutter is probably the most durable and best-designed TORO mower. It works steadily even when faced with difficult obstacles.
We really liked the MX5000’s comfortable 18-inch padded seat. It also has a fender on both sides of the seat. They protect you from debris as you cut.
Its sharp blade spins at a speed of 18,330 fpm. This speed is what allows the mower to cut tall, thick grass with ease. The motor in this mower is capable of cutting large lawns. And because the TimeCutter is a zero-turn mower, it can climb hills with no problem.
A 725cc Kohler V-twin engine powers this mower. Of course, the engine is powerful enough to cope with any kind of severe conditions.
The TimeCutter mower features a 50-inch fabricated steel deck. A unique feature of this mower is that it uses three blades to cut the grass. It has a durable steel frame. There are also two large front tires under the frame.
There are seven different options regarding the height of the bridge. They range from 1.5 inches to 4.5 inches. You can cut the entire lawn in 20-30 minutes with this lawnmower. This is because the TimeCutter MX5000 has exceptional speed. The mower’s maximum forward speed is 7 MPH and the maximum reverse speed is approximately 3 MPH.
The TimeCutter MX5000 is classified as a zero-turn mower. This means that it can negotiate difficult obstacles without problems. If you have a large, uneven lawn with lots of obstacles, this mower is the one for you.

Troy-Bilt TB400 XP
The Troy-Bilt TB400 XP is a self-propelled mower ideal for use in small gardens (½ to an acre). Like the Cub Cadet, it offers excellent traction with its all-wheel-drive transmission. While it does not offer as much power, it is perfectly suitable for use in patios with finer grasses.
The Troy-Bilt is another mower that offers the ability to switch between front, rear, and all-wheel drive for maximum performance on a variety of terrain.
Like the Cub Cadet, we found all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive to be the most useful. The front-wheel drive alone does not provide as much traction, especially when bagging and weight shifting to the rear of the mower.
The 159cc engine offers decent power, but for thicker lawns, you’ll definitely want to consider the Cub Cadet’s larger engine.
The Troy-Bilt also uses a 15-gauge stamped steel deck. Instead of a front bumper, there is a comb-shaped feature intended to lift grass before it hits the cutting blades. This is believed to help provide a more uniform cut. We have not noticed any significant improvement in this functionality.
The Troy-Bilt TB400 XP offered great traction and control when mowing up, down, and over hilly terrain. The four-wheel drive took the work off the steepest sections of our yard, pulling gently with little wheel spin.
The 159cc engine is probably underpowered for thicker lawns, as the mower blades share the power with the self-propelled system.
We also noted that the Troy-Bilt was more likely to drift off course when encountering sharp hits in the yard. This is largely due to the smaller rear wheels and lower overall weight (98 pounds).
The triple-action knife system worked well during bagging and side unloading. The quilting feature tended to leave more clippings than we would like. Again, this is most likely due to low power.
The ergonomic handle was comfortable and all the controls were easy to use. There is no start button on the Troy-Bilt TB400 XP.

Yard Force 120V Cordless Lawn Mower
While electric lawn mowers aren’t new, powerful cordless lawn mowers are a relatively recent development. The Yard Force 120V electric lawn mower is the most powerful on the market. It is self-propelled with rear-wheel drive.
The Yard Force 120V Lawn Mower is ideal for small yards with steep slopes. While it doesn’t offer all-wheel drive, the rear-wheel-drive performed well when tested on steep grades and slopes.
We loved the big 12-inch rear wheels. They facilitate maneuvers and follow a straight line. The electric motor has never had a hard time mowing and driving at the same time, although it does rev up when hitting thicker grass.
While some electric lawn mowers tend to be cheap and made of plastic, the Yard Force is built to last. The 22-inch steel deck is strong and durable. The plastic front bumper is somewhat flexible, allowing it to absorb shock from bumps and other obstacles in the yard.
We recently reviewed the Yard Force to compare it to other electric mowers. So we were pleasantly surprised to compare it to gasoline mowers in this comparison.
While the cutting power doesn’t match the Cub Cadet’s larger engine, it stands up to the Troy-Bilt. The brushless electric mower detects the load in real-time. So when you find thicker grass, you’ll hear the engine speed increase to cut more efficiently.
We did not experience any lag in self-propel, even when mowing thick grass on a steep incline. Batteries last up to 45 minutes. The mountainous terrain certainly had an impact on runtime, but it was still enough to allow us to charge one battery while using the other. This allowed for an uninterrupted cut until the end of the job. The battery charging time is about 30 minutes.
The best part about this trimmer is that apart from sharpening the blade every season, it requires no maintenance. There is no gas or oil. Just insert the battery, press the start button, and cut.
Benefits of Using Steep Hill Mowers
So how does a good steep hill mower help your lawn’s terrain?
Some of its different advantages are:
-
Superior stability
Most commercial lawn mowers have a low center of gravity. This greatly reduces the risk of tipping over. Many also have 4WD and wider tires for traction on all types of turf.
-
Ease of direction and movement
As your rear axle follows the front axle, they turn faster and with greater precision.
-
Reduced exposure to gas vapors
Some of the best hill mowers are battery-powered so gasoline vapors don’t float towards you so you can enjoy clean, healthy air.
-
Various methods to manage outages
Most have accessories, including baggers, shredders, and height-adjustable blades.
BEST HILLS LAWN MOWER BUYING GUIDE / THINGS TO LOOK FOR
Many things are different about lawnmowers and they vary from brand to brand. We have to make sure of our requirements for our use.
PENDING
We have to find out how steep our lawn is. The greater the angle, the more difficult it will be to cut the grass. Knowing the geography of the lawn beforehand makes our job easier because we already know how much power the mower needs.
The gradient is measured as the arc of the relationship between the vertical distance and the horizontal distance. Some lawn mowers are not suitable for high angles, so you need to know which one is useful.
WEIGHT
A lightweight lawn mower will be more ideal for hilly and slippery areas. Heavy mowers are difficult to handle and require more effort to raise and lower. But since we want a lightweight lawnmower, we don’t have to compromise on horsepower, generally less weight comes with little power. Therefore, consider the correct combination of weight and power before buying.
EASY TO USE
Most lawn mowers are easy to use, but the real value comes with the convenience of use. Mowing your lawn is already a stressful task and you don’t want something that will only make it worse.
When we talk about ease, we mean ease of starting and maneuverability. Assembly should also be easy and perform tasks like shredding, bagging, and side discharge to make it more convenient.
Fortunately, most modern lawn mowers are designed with operator ease and most brands guarantee that they will be easy to use even if you are a beginner.
BRIDGE SIZE
We have to take into account the width of the bridge, as it determines how easily it can be maneuvered in mountainous terrain.
For example, mowing is easy with a deck size of 42 to 52 inches because it gives you more cutting width so you can finish cutting quickly.
However, the size of the platform is not always larger. For narrow lanes, something shorter is better and provides better control. It is important to check the sizes/dimensions of the mower to find the correct one.
ENERGY OPTION
Different types of mowers use different types of energy. Some use gasoline or other liquid fuels, while others use electricity or the battery as their main source of energy. We have to check if the gasoline mower is available near our location, in case of electricity we have to check the plug, the length of the cable and if it reaches the corner of the end of our lawn. Generally, the electric lawnmower makes less noise than the fuel-powered one and is environmentally friendly, while the gasoline-powered one is usually cheaper, but since the fuel smells bad, we must wear a mask to avoid odors and have fuel on hand fuel and periodically check the fuel level of your lawnmower.
AIR FILTER
Make sure the engine you are walking behind has an air filter. It is a necessary part of the machine for the operator because the combustion of the fuel generates hydrocarbons that are not good to inhale, especially if you are going to use it for a long time.
DO YOU DRIVE
Your mower should come with proper and comfortable handles that you can hold firmly, the mower can be dangerous if it gets out of control. In addition, the mower generates vibrations that, in prolonged contact, cause fatigue and are not good for your health. Some special types of handles are designed to absorb a considerable amount of vibration from the mower.
REAR VS FRONT VS ALL-WHEEL TRACTION.
The main thing to look for is a rear-wheel-drive mower. Front-wheel drive mowers are more common because they won’t cut anything after a few degrees of incline be pushed.
All-wheel drive is fine for slopes, too, but it’s heavy and lacks other important qualities. Therefore, the rear-wheel-drive mower is the BEST HIDDEN SLOPE TRIMMER because it provides excellent traction, which is crucial in case you lose control while cutting.
Conclusion
Depending on your lawn, the best mower for hills and steep slopes is one that can maneuver slopes while mowing evenly, minimizing cleaning, using little fuel, requiring no regular maintenance, easy to store, and inexpensive One arm and one leg.
